VDOT's Culpeper District, Warrenton Residency is seeking an individual who will assume a key role in maintaining and preserving Virginia’s investment in roadway infrastructure. As a Maintenance Manager, you will:

• Assist the VDOT leadership in the coordination, integration and management of resources allocated to the maintenance program.
• Plan and direct maintenance operations
• Develop and manage workforce development, maintenance schedules, long-range strategic plan, organizational initiatives, and budgets.
• Ensure financial resources are planned and expended to fulfill needs within budgetary limits, policies, procedures, and deadlines.
• Coordinate and direct emergency operations to include inclement weather and disaster response.
• Respond to inquiries from internal and external customers by researching and reviewing requested information and providing responses.
• Ensure timely submittal of documents to Environmental and Hydraulic sections, as prescribed, for maintenance operations requiring permits and/or having environmental impacts.
• Serve as Safety Leader and Mentor by managing all safety aspects of safety relating to maintenance operations.


Minimum Qualifications


• Ability to plan and coordinate resources, manage multiple projects and schedules; assess training needs and provide workforce development opportunities.

• Considerable knowledge of federal and state highway and transportation rules, regulations, and policies.

• Valid driver's license.

• Ability effectively communicate orally and in writing with the general public, property owners, contractors, and VDOT staff.

• Skill in the use of computers and software applications.

• Considerable knowledge of inventory management.

• Ability to supervise and manage diverse staff by analyzing needs, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations to support organizational values and goals.

• Considerable knowledge of roadway constructions and maintenance operations, equipment, materials, and techniques.

• Ability to understand, apply, and advocate for safety standards and procedures for implementation into the workforce.


Additional Considerations


• Progressively responsible experience in budget management and allocations

• Progressively responsible experience in the management and supervision of roadway maintenance or construction activities.

• A combination of training, experience, or education in Engineering, Public Administration or related field desired.

• DEQ: Inspector for Erosion Sediment Control (ESC IN).

• Experience developing and promoting effective workforce teams that demonstrate VDOT's core competency model.

• Experience or skill in the use of automated financial software; advanced skilled in computers a plus.
